WEEK 1

PLAY BALL! by D.X.Pert

And we begin another season. The second year for the Ruthless League. We have eight founding members and four new managers eager to win the World Series in 2005.
What did we see in the so awaited first week of the season? We saw a Black Sox team that lost for the fourth straight time to the Beachwood Terriers. Vargo put together a nice team that will be even tougher to beat when Mark Prior makes his debut.
We also saw the defending champs go down against the Mad Turtles for the first time ever. The South American franchise is always dangerous due to that amazing pitching staff of Santana, Unit, Pedro, Wood and Schilling.
Great debut for Mark Hines! The Fury managed to beat the Maniacs for the first time in franchise history thanks to Ichiro, Kent and Halladay.
On the other hand, there was a terrible debut. It was Rafael Oliveira's. The problem is he forgot to field a shortstop and scored the lowest point total ever in a game. That's an unacceptable mistake even for a rookie manager. Hopefully, he'll pay more attention in the next weeks.
The Stanglers, one of my candidates to win the title, got an easy win over the Walkers despite poor performances by Nomar Garciaparra and Barry Zito.

But the most exciting matchup was the one between the Monkeys and the Frogs in which Saint Louis won by 4 points. The difference? Magglio's injury early in the week.
