NO FLUKE by D.X.Pert

 

It's been only two starts, but it seems pretty clear now that Josh Beckett's amazing playoff performances last October were no fluke. The 23-year-old kid drafted in the fourth round by the Buenos Aires Mad Turtles has thrown 14 innings, struckout 20 batters and allowed just 1 earned run. According to the old adage "pitching wins championships". Well, the Mad Turtles will be contenders then because they have the best staff in the Ruthless League. Even when their pitchers have a poor outing, they are a lock for at least 5 strikeouts. But enough about the Mad Turtles, let's talk about the rest of the teams. How about those Tree Frogs? Kevin Brown and CC Sabathia paved the way but their hitters did a pretty good job despite A-Rod's slow start. They obliterated the Wrigleyville Sluggers who got good production from their... sluggers, but lack pitching. The Kitchener Howlers had an easy win too despite Nick Johnson's injury; Bartolo Colon and Jose Cruz made the difference against a Cubs team that got the fewest at-bats in the league and had a 5.94 ERA. The Long Ballers shouls thank Yankees' hitter for their bad start because this kept the Bronx Bombers in close games and allowed Mariano Rivera to get 3 key saves in their win over the Springers. And how about those Terriers? They lost Prior, left Benitez on the bench (he got 5 saves) and still beat the Drunken Monkeys in a close game. Maniacs-Black Sox was the worst game of the week. 565 points combined? Ouch!
